  • The Painted Turtle has been around for over 15 million years
  • It is the most widespread turtle in the US, found from the Atlantic to the Pacific, from Canada to Mexico
  • The female Painted Turtle is 4 to 10 inches, the male of the species is usually smaller
  • Though it’s Conservation Status is Least Concern, the continued development of property is destroying its natural habitats
  • There are 4 distinct subspecies of the Painted Turtle; Eastern Painted Turtle, Midland Painted Turtle, Southern Painted Turtle and Western Painted Turtle
