What Are Green Herons
The Green Heron (Butorides virescens) is known for its greenish-black head cap and greenish back, its wings are greenish at the base turning to black and gray towards the tips. It has a reddish chestnut colored chest with a white line down the middle, the underparts are a grayish color and it has short, yellow legs.
It is one of the smaller Herons with the adults having a body length of only about 17 inches, females being slightly smaller than the males, and not quite as colorful.
