There are forty (40) Subclasses or Orders of Birds (Aves) according to the ITIS Standard Report. (Though according to Birds.com there are only 23 Orders? How Many Species Of Birds Are In Maryland?
According to the Department of Natural Resources the State of Maryland has 436 recorded bird species. That is less than 5% of the total number of birds species currently living in the world.
